Een muzikale en mystieke dialoog tussen Andalusië, Iran en Syrië

Meegevoerd door de wind en rusteloze zielen: melodieën reizen altijd. Sommige klanken vinden hun weg naar plaatsen waar ze niet verwacht werden, maar waar ze, ver voordat ze begrepen kunnen worden, een gevoel van verlangen planten.

Als kind in Cádiz voelde Antonio Lizana zich aangetrokken door dergelijke echo’s uit verre oorden, melodieën die zowel vertrouwd als mysterieus klonken. De muziek van Omar Farouk Tekbilek opende voor hem uiteindelijk de deur naar deze klankenwereld, een eerste ontmoeting die een vergeten verbinding deed herleven in een weerklank die geen grenzen kende.

Als bassist in het kwintet van Lizana maakte Arin Keshishi de afgelopen drie jaar van dichtbij kennis met Lizana’s muzikale fascinatie. Door talloze optredens en gedeelde ervaringen ontstond een diepe muzikale band, die op natuurlijke wijze uitgroeide tot iets groters. In zijn rol als artistiek leider van Marmoucha Orchestra verrijkte Keshishi de dialoog met Lizana met nieuwe stemmen en tradities, waardoor hun muzikale reis zich verder ontvouwde en nieuwe horizonten verkende.

Een mystiek element

Een laatste, onmisbaar element van deze reis is beweging. De Syrische danser Ahmad Joudeh brengt zijn persoonlijke verhaal van ballingschap, veerkracht en transformatie tot leven binnen deze symfonie van stemmen en wortels. Geïnspireerd door de mystieke Sama-dans uit de Sufi-traditie maakt hij van beweging een expressie van de ziel. In een samensmelting van klassieke en hedendaagse dansstijlen belichaamt Joudeh de essentie van overgave, als een derwisj die zich verliest in het ritme van de muziek.

Led by the Wind gaat verder dan muziek alleen. Het draait om de zoektocht naar zingeving, om overgave en transcendentie. Geïnspireerd door Sufi-filosofie weerspiegelen zowel de muziek als de dans in deze voorstelling devotie, bezinning en eenheid. Hierdoor overstijgt de kunst zichzelf en ontstaat er een diepe spirituele verbinding.

Marmoucha Orchestra: Een ontmoeting van klanken

Marmoucha Orchestra is een ensemble van topmuzikanten die moderne stijlen combineren met een veelvoud aan muzikale tradities uit Zuidwest-Azie en Noord-Afrika. Met talloze succesvolle projecten heeft het orkest een eigen, herkenbare klank ontwikkeld die wereldwijd de aandacht trekt. Door traditie zowel te respecteren als te vernieuwen creëert Marmoucha Orchestra een unieke omgeving waarin flamenco en verre melodieën samenkomen.

In Led by the Wind laat het ensemble in deze omgeving muziek en beweging versmelten tot een gedeelde expressie. Zoals de draaiende derwisj zich vol vetrouwen laat gaan, ontvouwt deze voorstelling zich als een symfonie van verlangen, herkenning en transcendentie, waarin melodieën, ritmes en beweging een pad openen naar diepere verbinding.

Carried by the wind and restless souls: melodies will always be travelling. Some will find their way to places where they are not expected, but where they, long before they can be understood, plant a sense of longing.

As a child in Cádiz, Antonio Lizana felt drawn to such echoes from distant lands; melodies that sounded both familiar and mysterious. The music of Omar Farouk Tekbilek eventually opened the door for him to this world of sounds, a first encounter that revived a forgotten connection in a resonance that knew no borders.

As a bassist in Lizana’s quintet, Arin Keshishi has closely experienced Lizana’s musical fascination over the past three years. Through countless performances and shared experiences, a deep musical bond developed, which naturally grew into something greater. In his role as artistic director of Marmoucha Orchestra, Keshishi enriched the dialogue with Lizana by introducing new voices and traditions, allowing their musical journey to unfold further and explore new horizons.

A mystical element

A final, indispensable element of this journey is movement. Syrian dancer Ahmad Joudeh brings his personal story of exile, resilience, and transformation to life within this symphony of voices and roots. Inspired by the mystical Sama dance of the Sufi tradition, he transforms movement into an expression of the soul. In a fusion of classical and contemporary dance styles, Joudeh embodies the essence of surrender, like a dervish losing himself in the rhythm of the music.

Led by the Wind goes beyond music alone. It is about the search for meaning, about surrender and transcendence. Inspired by Sufi philosophy, both the music and the dance in this performance reflect devotion, contemplation, and unity. Through this, art transcends itself, creating a deep spiritual connection.

With numerous successful projects, the orchestra has developed its own, distinctive sound that draws worldwide attention. By both respecting and renewing tradition, Marmoucha Orchestra creates a unique environment where flamenco and distant melodies come together.

In Led by the Wind, the ensemble merges music and movement into a shared expression. Just as the whirling dervish surrenders with full trust, this performance unfolds as a symphony of longing, recognition, and transcendence, where melodies, rhythms, and movement open a path to deeper connection.
