Dit internationaal samengestelde ensemble, met leden uit Spanje, Duitsland, Iran en Libanon, brengt een fascinerende mix van jazz, akoestische wereldmuziek en persoonlijke verhalen naar het podium.

Elk lid van dit ensemble kwam naar Nederland om te studeren, maar besloot te blijven en met Marmoucha Orchestra een nieuw artistiek hoofdstuk te beginnen. In Wandering Roots delen zij de uitdagingen en de obstakels die ze onderweg tegenkwamen. Hun muziek weerspiegelt hun zoektocht naar identiteit, waarbij zij balanceren tussen hun roots en hun nieuwe thuis in Nederland. Hoewel ze zichzelf nergens volledig thuis voelen, herkennen ze elkaar juist in deze gedeelde staat van ‘niet thuishoren’, wat een krachtige verbinding vormt.

In dit project brengt elke muzikant eigen composities in, die gezamenlijk worden verfijnd tot een harmonisch geheel. De musici verweven traditionele stijlen – van Armeense melodieën en Andalusische passie tot Marokkaanse invloeden en moderne elektronische texturen – met hedendaagse jazz en improvisatie. Deze democratische werkwijze leidt tot een sprankelend nieuw geluid dat de transformerende kracht van migratie voelbaar maakt.

Each member of the ensemble came to the Netherlands to study, but decided to stay and begin a new artistic chapter with Marmoucha Orchestra. In Wandering Roots, they share the challenges and obstacles they encountered along the way. Their music reflects their search for identity, as they balance between their roots and their new home in the Netherlands. Though they don’t fully feel at home anywhere, they find a powerful connection in their shared state of ‘not belonging anywhere’.
