Het Marmoucha Orchestra bestaat uit bevlogen musici met een passie voor muziek en de diversiteit in muzikale talen, stijlen en tradities van Noord-Afrika, het Midden-Oosten en de Middellandse Zee.
Het Marmoucha Orchestra treedt op in alle producties van Marmoucha en brengt muzikanten, kunstenaars en publiek samen en slaat een brug tussen Oosterse en Westerse muziek. Het is de ontmoetingsplaats voor iedereen met een interesse in de Arabische cultuur en wereldmuziek.
Muzikaal bestrijkt het Orchestra de regio van Noord-Afrika, het Midden-Oosten en het Middellandse Zeegebied. Van muziek uit Andalusië, de Maghreb en het Midden-Oosten tot jazz, pop- en elektronische muziek.
Artistieke kern
De artistieke kern van het Marmoucha Orchestra bestaat uit jonge bevlogen artiesten uit Nederland, het Midden Oosten, de Maghreb en de Middellandse Zee. Ze hebben ieder hun eigen specialisatie, techniek en repertoire. Het Orchestra bevat muzikanten, theatermakers, VJ’s, dansers, acteurs, componisten en specialisten zoals een musicoloog (Neil van der Linden).
Avishai Darash (Israëlische-Irakese-Nederlander) is de artistiek leider en hij verzorgt samen met Mohamed Ahaddaf (Marokkaanse Nederlander), Maripepa Contreras (Spaans-Nederlander) en Karim El Guennouni (Marokkaanse Nederlander) de coördinatie van het Marmoucha Orchestra.
Maripepa Contreras is één van de weinige jazzhoboïsten ter wereld en zij is actief in zowel de klassieke als de jazzwereld.
Mohamed Ahaddaf heeft een grote kennis van de Maghrebijnse muziekcultuur en is expert in het moderniseren van klassieke Andalusische en Arabische muziek.
Avishai Darash is een internationaal geprezen componist, arrangeur en producent die beroemd is om zijn unieke vermogen om Arabische en Noord-Afrikaanse muziek te spelen. Hij is gespecialiseerd in de Arabische Maqam-muziek en heeft ervaring in de Westerse jazz, die hij combineert met neoklassieke improvisaties.
Sinds 2016 werkt Karim el Guennouni samen met Stichting Marmoucha, waarvoor hij verschillende voorstellingen schrijft, regisseert en speelt.
Marmoucha Orchestra
The Marmoucha Orchestra performs in all productions and brings musicians, artists and public together to bridge the gap between Eastern and Western music. Providing a meeting place for everyone with an interest in Arabic culture and world music.
Musically, the Orchestra covers the region from North-Africa, the Middle-East and the Mediterranean. From music from Andalusia, the Maghreb and the Middle-East, to jazz, pop and electronic music.
The Marmoucha Orchestra is not just a collective of musicians. The Orchestra draws its inspiration from Arabic culture: a world full of poetry and passion, with surprising details. Add to that the cultural diversity of its members, the mix of traditions, the wide variety of instruments and the combination with musical theatre, and it’s easy to see that Marmoucha is unique in the Netherlands and further afield.
Artistic core
Marmoucha’s artistic core is made up of young, enthusiastic artists from the Netherlands, the Middle East, the Maghreb and the Mediterranean. The artists are multi-talented and also work as soloists. Each artist has their own specialisation, technique, repertoire and/or specific area of expertise, like jazz, pop or Arabic and Mediterranean genres. The Orchestra is made up of musicians, theatre makers, VJs, dancers, actors, composers and specialists such as a musicologist (Neil van der Linden).
Avishai Darash, of Israeli/Iraqi descent, is the artistic leader. Together with Mohamed Ahaddaf, Dutch/Moroccan, Maripepa Contreras, Spanish/Dutch, and Karim El Guennouni, Dutch/Moroccan, he forms the team of coordinators.
Maripepa Contreras is one of the very few jazz oboists in the world. She is active in both classical and jazz music.
Mohamed Ahaddaf has a vast amount of knowledge about Maghrebi music culture and is an expert in modernising classical Andalusian and Arabic music.
Avishai Darash is an internationally renowned composer, arranger and producer, famous for his unique skills performing Arabic and North African music. His specialisation is Arabic Maqam music and he has experience in western jazz, which he combines with neo-classical improv.
Karim el Guennoui has been working with the Marmoucha Foundation since 2016, writing, directing and playing in various performances.
