Hoewel hun achtergronden sterk verschillen, delen zij dezelfde vragen.
Over Marmoucha Orchestra

Wandering Roots
For Wandering Roots, a specially assembled ensemble from Marmoucha Orchestra brings together five musicians, each of whom followed a different path to the Netherlands. Delaram Kafashzadeh grew up in Iran, Maripepa Contreras and Adrian Moncada in Spain, Ruven Ruppik in Germany, and Matteo Mazzù in Belgium. They came to the Netherlands to study at the conservatory, decided to stay, and found each other through Marmoucha Orchestra.
Although their backgrounds differ greatly, they share the same questions. How do you carry the music you grew up with into a new country? What changes when your musical tradition encounters new influences and new audiences? How much can you reshape your musical home without losing your identity?
For Wandering Roots, each musician brings their own compositions, musical roots, and personal experiences. Together, they shape these into a single performance. The result is a series of new compositions in which Persian vocals, Andalusian melodies, Mediterranean influences, jazz, and improvisation flow together naturally. Each musician tells a personal story, while it is the meeting of those different stories that gives the performance its strength.
The result is a concert where memory, longing, curiosity, and hope become audible.
About Marmoucha Orchestra
Marmoucha Orchestra brings together musicians whose roots lie in a wide range of musical traditions. In every production, they contribute their own musical backgrounds, knowledge, and experience. Traditional music serves as the starting point for new contemporary compositions and artistic collaboration.
What defines Marmoucha Orchestra is that every production grows bottom up from the musicians themselves. Their diverse cultural backgrounds, musical languages, and personal stories come together in new work that naturally blurs the boundaries between jazz, contemporary music, and the musical traditions of the SWANA region. In doing so, the orchestra not only appeals to a broad concert audience but also builds harmonious bridges between cultures.
