Maripepa Contreras is één van de weinige jazzhoboïsten ter wereld, en is actief in zowel de klassieke als de jazzwereld. Ze begon haar klassieke-opleiding in Spanje en speelde daarna in diverse orkesten en won verschillende prijzen. In 2015 verhuisde ze naar Amsterdam om een bachelor in jazz te doen aan het Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
Artiesten waar Contreras mee samenwerkte zijn onder meer: Ernesto Aurignac Orchestra, Magda Mendes, Javier Ojeda, Matthias Van den Brande en Lionel Ziblat. Ook heeft ze samengewerkt met orkesten zoals: Het Promenade Orkest, Nationaal Symfonisch Kamerorkest, De Koninklijke Militaire Kapel ‘Johan Willem Friso’, Orquesta de Córdoba, Orquesta Sinfónica Provincial de Málaga, academy of Metropole Orkest, Nationaal Jeugd Orkest, Orquesta Ciudad de Almería, enz. Op dit moment geeft ze hobo jazz les op het Conservatorium Amsterdam.
Maripepa Contreras is one of a handful of jazz oboists in the world. She is active in both the classical and the jazz world. She started her education in classical music in her native Spain, followed by performances with a number of orchestras and winning several prizes.
She moved to Amsterdam in 2015 for a bachelor’s in jazz at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. She worked with fellow artists in the Ernesto Aurignac Orchestra, with Magda Mendes, Javier Ojeda, Matthias Van den Brande and Lionel Ziblat. She has also worked with orchestras such as the Promenade Orkest, the Nationaal Symfonisch Kamerorkest, the Koninklijke Militaire Kapel (Royal Military Band) ‘Johan Willem Friso’, the Orquesta de Córdoba, the Orquesta Sinfónica Provincial de Málaga, the Academy of the Metropole Orkest, the National Youth Orchestra, the Orquesta Ciudad de Almería, and many others.
Maripepa is currently working as an oboe teacher at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
