Eye en Marmoucha, een collectief voor muziek en cultuur uit Noord-Afrika en het Midden-Oosten, slaan de handen ineen. De unieke samenwerking brengt niet alleen bijzondere stille films met live muzikale begeleiding onder de aandacht, maar slaat ook een brug tussen de culturen van Oost en West.
Marmoucha – waarvan het Marmoucha Orchestra onderdeel is – produceert en promoot sinds 2002 muziek- en theatervoorstellingen waarin zich de diversiteit van de Nederlandse samenleving weerspiegelt. Het collectief besteedt vooral aandacht aan pioniers van nieuwe muziekstromingen en vernieuwers van bestaande muziekstijlen, met crossovers tussen de muziek- en kunstuitingen van verschillende culturen.
Marmoucha Orchestra is opgericht door een groep musici met passie voor de diversiteit in de muzikale stijlen en tradities van het Midden-Oosten en Noord-Afrika, de zogeheten MENA-landen. Marmoucha Orchestra is er nadrukkelijk voor alle muziekliefhebbers; livemuziek raakt de harten en brengt mensen van over de hele wereld dichter bij elkaar, ook in moeilijke tijden.
Eye Meets Marmoucha bestaat uit drie minifestivals. Hart van het programma vormen zelden vertoonde stille films uit de Eye-collectie, met live muzikale begeleiding van het Marmoucha Orchestra (onder leiding van artistiek leider en bassist Arin Keshishi, ud speler Mohamed Ahaddaf, percussionist Udo Demandt en projectleider en jazzhoboïst Maripepa Contreras). Ook te zien: klassieke geluidsfilms, recente films van nieuwe makers, theatrale familievoorstellingen en optredens van jonge dichters bij beelden uit de Eye-collectie.

Marmoucha, which the Marmoucha Orchestra is part of, has been producing and promoting music and theatre that reflects the Netherlands’ diversity since 2002. The collective primarily lavishes attention on new musical movements and innovators in existing genres with crossovers between the music and artistic expressions of various cultures.
Marmoucha Orchestra was founded by a group of musicians with a passion for the diversity of musical styles and traditions to be found in the Middle East and North Africa, the so-called MENA countries. Marmoucha Orchestra is emphatically for all lovers of good music. Live music touches souls and unites people from around the globe, even in difficult times.
Eye Meets Marmoucha will consist of three mini-festivals. The programme’s core encompasses seldom screened silent films from Eye’s collection, accompanied live by the Marmoucha Orchestra (led by artistic director and bassist Arin Keshishi, oud player Mohamed Ahaddaf, percussionist Udo Demandt and project leader and jazz oboist Maripepa Contreras). Eye will also screen classic talkies, recent films by new makers, theatrical family presentations and performances from young poets accompanying footage from Eye’s collection.
